Dr. Karl Hess earned his Pharm.D. from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences Boston Campus in 2005. He subsequently completed a PGY1 community pharmacy practice residency at the University of Southern California, School of Pharmacy in 2006. Currently, Dr. Hess is Vice Chair and Associate Professor of Clinical and Administrative Sciences at Keck Graduate Institute, School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Previously, Dr. Hess was Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Administration at Western University of Health Sciences, College of Pharmacy.
Dr. Hess oversees a travel health clinic within an independent community pharmacy in Claremont, CA and also provides patient care services within the Claremont University Consortium Student Health Services. Dr. Hess teaches a variety of subjects on self-care therapeutics, immunizations, and travel health and medicine. In 2009, he received the Certificate in Travel Health from the International Society of Travel Medicine. Dr. Hess is also a past Speaker of the House for the California Pharmacists Association and received fellowship status from this association. Dr. Hess is interested in the implementation and practice of collaborative-practice services within the community setting. His areas of academic and research interests include community pharmacy, travel health and medicine, vaccines, self-care therapeutics, and the safe and effective use of nonprescription medications and dietary supplements.
