3M is a Fortune Global 500 company headquartered in Maplewood, Minnesota. 3M’s product portfolio is highly diversified, with over 60,000 products in over 200 countries and sales of $32.8 billion USD in 2018 alone. 3M has five business divisions: industrial, safety, healthcare, electronics and consumer products. The largest of these five business divisions is the Industrial Business Group, which constituted 37.9% of total company sales in Q4 2018. Within these five business divisions lie commonly known products such as Scotch® Brand Tape, Command™ Hooks and Post-it® Notes as well as lesser known products in personal safety, abrasives and bioprocessing technologies.
Within 3M’s Separation and Purification Sciences (SPSD) bioprocessing business lie three main product families: 3M™ LifeASSURE™ membrane filters, 3M™ Zeta Plus™ depth filters and 3M™ Emphaze™ AEX Hybrid Purifiers. The pharmaceutical grade Zeta Plus depth filters exhibit high contaminant-holding capacity and provide economical filtration and reliable particle reduction. The 3M Emphaze AEX Hybrid Purifier is 3M’s latest bioprocessing product. It contains an all-synthetic, highly functionalized media that substantially reduces turbidity, DNA, HCP and bioburden.
The KGI team has been working with 3M SPSD on a biomanufacturing product marketing communications campaign. 3M SPSD seeks to raise awareness with biotechnology customers of 3M’s bioprocessing products and product technologies. Our team’s task is to create customized educational material in the form of six brief videos that 3M can distribute, enabling customers to learn more about industry trends and 3M biomanufacturing technology. The campaign goal is to tell the story of how 3M products can help reduce process time and potentially help drive down costs when implemented within a current bioprocessing platform. The videos will highlight current problems and trends throughout the biomanufacturing process for process engineers and explain how 3M technologies can help.
