Biocon and KGI Launch Certificate Program in Bioscience Management

KGI and Biocon recently launched a new program through Biocon Academy, called Biocon KGI Certificate Program in Bioscience Management.

The KGI-Biocon partnership formally launched in January 2014 with the establishment of Biocon Academy: A Center of Excellence for Advanced Learning in Applied Biosciences. The academy was created to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry experience by providing students with the opportunity to build skill sets useful in their professional lives and in the Biotech industry. In this partnership KGI faculty provide students with international course content, mentoring and industrial training that is essential to successful career development.

In building upon this relationship and the success of the inaugural academy program, KGI and Biocon worked together to create an executive education type management training program, the Certificate of Bioscience Management. This 16 week intensive program launched in June 2015 and is designed to meet the needs of the Indian Biopharma industry by training entry-level managers from various departments.

Course modules include Introduction to Bioscience Industries, Innovation Management, International Business and Strategy and Operations Management. It is through these topics that students learn about conceptual frameworks in market strategy and market assessment as each relates to the bioscience industry. Students will also examine strategies that foster sustainable competitive advantages, analyze business policy cases and gain a broad perspective on operations management at the tactical and strategic level. The primary objective of this corporate-level management program is to shape careers, provide a global learning experience to talented professionals, enable them to hone their skills and prepare students to be future leaders.

This is also an important milestone as it marks the first time KGI has launched an online executive management program that has been designed specifically for a corporate entity. Program Director Dr. Meghana Joshi said, “This new certificate program is a reflection of the success of the KGI-Biocon partnership and is a vehicle for providing relevant, applicable and necessary skills to professionals who want to be industry leaders.”

This program’s inaugural batch is exclusive for Biocon employees but applications will open to the general public for subsequent program dates. The inaugural batch began June 26 and will conclude October 7. Currently about 10 KGI faculty teach Biocon Academy classes, about 4 teach in the Bioscience Management program and 6 professors teach in the Bioscience program.
