KGI Launches Admissions Ambassador Program for Students and Alumni

The Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) Division of Admissions and Financial Aid launched a new Admissions Ambassador program in early April, 2020. The program is geared toward current students, alumni, and summer program students who will earn important marketing, communication, and leadership skills to be used in a future career.

The purpose of the program is to allow students to represent KGI in an ambassador role at various recruiting events both virtually and on various campuses in the area. In an inaugural meeting on April 7, students received their first official training as ambassador representatives.

“We are thrilled to launch the Admissions Ambassador program this year with such a bright and talented group of students,” said Admissions and International Student Advisor Catharyne Magro.

“These students are eager to share their unique stories and advise with our incoming and prospective students.”

Admissions Ambassadors currently consist of 22 students from both the Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences and the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The selected group went through an application process that included two letters of recommendation and interviews with the program leaders, Director of Admissions Nathan Araujo and Magro.

“The common theme I saw that represents this first cohort is their desire to serve and their overall appreciation to the individuals that made their journey to KGI possible,” said Araujo. “They simply want to serve in that advisory role for future students who are considering KGI.”

In return for the students’ time and advocacy, they will be given trainings on recruitment, communication, and marketing, featured on KGI’s website and marketing materials, and given exclusive KGI Admissions Ambassador swag.

Admissions Ambassadors will meet at least once a month and are committed to the program until the end of the academic year. The program will break during the summer months and continue again at the start of the 2020-2021 academic year.
