As part of an international trip to the Middle East and India in late November, President Mohamed Abousalem signed three institutional agreements with Liwa University in Abu Dhabi –– the first international pathway program in KGI’s history.

In partnership with Liwa University, led by President Mohamed Mahjoub Dhiaf, KGI will offer pathways for Liwa University students into the Master of Business and Science (MBS) and Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) programs. The agreements provide admissions guarantees, scholarships, and professional development opportunities for students who meet specific qualifications.

“This partnership brings KGI's graduate education to the United Arab Emirates and the world through a strong academic partner who is also committed to developing the future life sciences and healthcare leaders who will uplift and heal our local and global communities,” Abousalem said.

For the MBS program, the first KGI program established in 2000, there are two pathways to a degree for Liwa University students. The first enables qualified Liwa University MBA students to matriculate into an accelerated version of the MBS program, with the first Liwa University graduates being eligible to start at KGI in fall 2026. The second pathway is for students who enter Liwa University beginning in fall 2026 to earn an MBA-MBS dual degree from both institutions, with students coming to KGI after two years at Liwa University.

“Through our partnership with Keck Graduate Institute, Liwa University students have access to accelerated MBA pathways, dual degree programs, and direct progression to KGI’s Doctor of Occupational Therapy program,” said Dhiaf. “This collaboration not only provides scholarships and professional development but also equips students with global exposure, research opportunities, and the skills to excel in international careers. By working together, we are empowering our students to reach their fullest potential and contribute meaningfully to the world, reflecting Liwa University’s commitment to innovation, excellence, and transformative education.”

The OTD pathway provides eligibility for qualified students who graduate from Liwa University’s Occupational Therapy bachelor’s degree program to enter KGI’s OTD program, beginning in fall 2026.

The field of occupational therapy is growing in interest in the Middle East, but most countries only have a bachelor’s degree program. The partnership with KGI provides an opportunity for students in the Middle East to obtain a graduate degree and open employment opportunities for them across the Middle East and the world.

KGI views this partnership with Liwa University as a strong first step in growing the Institute’s awareness globally as a strategic partner in critical fields of biotechnology and healthcare.

“Our programs produce leaders in career paths that are instrumental in ensuring the health and wellbeing of people around the world,” Abousalem said. “We look forward to continuing to seek global partners like Liwa University to advance opportunities for education and training that benefits both institutions and their graduates.”
