KGI School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Partners with AbbVie, Inc., for Fellowship Program

The Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is proud to partner with AbbVie, Inc. to offer the first AbbVie-KGI Biopharmaceutical Industry Fellowship. Founded in 2018, the program aims to provide exceptional biopharmaceutical industry training for Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) graduates with a broad exposure to the area of scientific communications and medical affairs. This program will prepare fellows for a career in the pharmaceutical industry by focusing on developing a deep understanding of how companies operate.

“We are delighted to work with AbbVie, Inc. to develop this critical Medical Affairs Fellowship,” said Bernard Tyrrell, the associate dean for pharmacy and industry relations at KGI’s School of Pharmacy. “We look forward to a long and beneficial relationship with our colleagues at AbbVie to help develop the next generation of industry leaders.”

AbbVie Medical Affairs Fellowship

The one-year Medical Affairs Fellowship provides an opportunity to learn the skills and experiences necessary to excel as a pharmacist in scientific communication, a key function in any biopharmaceutical company. The fellowship will be based out of the AbbVie offices in Chicago, IL.

The core responsibility of Medical Affairs at AbbVie is to generate and communicate clinical and scientific data as well as engage in scientific discussions with key stakeholders, including healthcare providers (HCPs), patients, and payers. By doing so, the overarching Medical Affairs division actively supports the development and delivery of therapies to patients with a high unmet need.

Fellows will spend 90 percent of their time on duties specific to the industry site and 10% of time on professional development activities with KGI School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. All fellows will be eligible for adjunct faculty status.

Fellowship Eligibility Requirements

A candidate must be:

  • Must be a PharmD graduate from an accredited institution
