First in a series of professional development courses, students will be exposed to behaviors of professionalism and be able to work on their communication etiquette during their initial year in pharmacy school. The historical development of the pharmacy profession, various aspects of pharmacy, guidance on communicating with health care providers, building on skills to support their professional growth in the graduate setting will be discussed. Students will participate in Interprofessional Education (IPE) activities, such as problem-based learning (PBL) allowing students to develop self-directed, lifelong learning. These collaborative exercises with the University of California Riverside (UCR) School of Medicine, Riverside Community College (RCC) School of Nursing, and other Interprofessional collaborators will help students develop verbal and writing skills to allow effective communications with health professionals.
