Please join us for our Research Seminar Series Speaker, Dr. Nancy Sobhy Bolous, , MD, MA, MSc, Research Scientist at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Dr. Nancy Sobhy Bolous is a research scientist in Global Pediatric Medicine at St. Jude. She has led several research projects focused on costing and cost-effectiveness of treatments for pediatric hematology-oncology.

Dr. Sobhy Bolous is a physician who, after experiencing the system shortcomings that prevent physicians from delivering the best care, decided to transition to the field of healthcare economics and management.

Over the years, she has engaged with multiple organizations and has traveled to serve communities in many countries. She aspires to invest her medical and economics expertise to help guide developing countries in using their limited resources in a cost-effective manner.

Her recent work focuses on comparing, for patients with severe hemophilia B, the potential cost-effectiveness of AAV-mediated Factor IX (FIX) – Padua gene therapy. This work showed, based on certain simulation inputs and assumptions, that gene therapy was more cost-effective than current reference treatment for patients with severe hemophilia B.

A key focus of her work is to prevent a lack of access to gene therapies for hemophilia using adeno-associated virus (AAV) derived vector pathways, as supported by collaborative and international efforts of all stakeholders.
