Interested in a Master’s Degree?

Pre-health students in KGI’s postbac programs may also pursue a master’s degree during the glide year when applying to PA school. After the first year in the postbac program, you are enrolled in KGI’s Master of Science (MS) in Applied Life Sciences program the second year. You have the option of selecting from five different concentrations in the MS program (listed below).

If you are interested in pursuing your master’s degree, apply for the MS program and select “Yes” when asked on the application when asked to apply for the pre-health track.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Students can communicate effectively in an industry environment composed of scientists, engineers, and business professionals.
  2. Students can contribute productively on an interdisciplinary team tackling complex problems.
  3. Students understand the business, research and development, regulatory, production, and marketing functions of the bioscience industry.
  4. Students understand the translation of basic science and engineering discoveries into products and processes, which benefit society.
  5. Students adhere to ethical principles in research, development and business issues inherent in the bioscience industries.

Students in the MS program are required to complete a total of 54.0 units comprised of:

  • 12.0 units of core science courses
  • 3.0 units of professional development
  • 39.0 units of electives (including the following intersection requirements):
    • 27.0 units of Advanced Technical and General 
    • 12.0 units of Capstone (thesis or TMP)

Advanced and General Technical Electives

All MS students are required to complete additional units of any KGI courses, 300-level or 400-level to achieve the required 54.0 unit total.

Concentrations

MS students have an option of selecting one of six concentrations offered as part of the program:

  • Translational Research Thesis 
  • Clinical Research Thesis 
  • Public Health Research Thesis
  • Bioprocessing Research Concentration
  • Infectious Diseases Research Thesis
  • Team Master’s Project (TMP) 

Capstone Projects: Each concentration requires completion of 12.0 units of a capstone project which can be a Thesis in Translational Research, Thesis in Clinical Research, Thesis in Public Health, or a TMP.
